High School Independent Learning Courses
Registration
(back to main high school page - back to independent learning page)
How to Register
You may enroll at any time in a high school independent learning
course. We welcome phone-in or faxed-in registration with credit card payment;
or you may complete the registration form return
it with the total payment to the following address:
Independent Learning Program
Extended Studies
University of Nevada, Reno
P.O. Box 14429
Reno, Nevada 89507
In-person Registration
If you prefer, you may come into our office and register
in person. We are located at 1041 N. Virginia Street, Continuing Education
Building, Room 225, Reno, Nevada. Bring your completed form and payment between
7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a staff member will process
your enrollment. All course materials, including books, are available at
our office.
High School Credit
Credit is granted by the high school whose requirements
you wish to fulfill. It is your responsibility to ascertain before enrollment
that the course(s) chosen meet the requirements you wish to satisfy. On the
registration form and final examination cover sheet, the school granting
the credit is identified by the student; a copy of the final grade report
is sent to the school official named. Adults wishing to take courses for
vocational or cultural value, but not for graduation, may enroll without
a school's approval.
Credit for Graduation
A high school student wishing to apply any of our courses
toward a diploma of graduation must obtain the authorizing signature of his
or her principal on the registration form. The desired course(s) must be
indicated before the principal signs the form. This approval statement is
the student's
assurance that the school agrees the course(s) shown will meet stated requirements
for high school graduation.
Dual Credit
Occasionally high school students enroll in our college-level
credit courses and ask that the credit(s) also apply to their high school
diplomas. In most states this option is approved or denied by the principal
at the high school from which the student will graduate. In Washoe County,
contact the University of Nevada, Reno Office of Prospective Students at
(775) 784-4700, ext. 2085 or 1-866-2-NEVADA.
High School Textbooks and Materials
In addition to the syllabus (study guide)
supplied by independent learning, students are required to obtain specific
textbooks for each course. These textbooks are available for purchase at
the time of enrollment. Used books are often available for each class at
reduced rates. Please indicate if you prefer new books or used books when
you enroll. We will accommodate your request whenever possible. Textbook
prices are subject to change.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites (required courses that you must have completed
prior to enrollment) are listed for some of our courses. Courses with sequential
numbers must be taken in order; they cannot be taken concurrently unless
otherwise noted.
Military Personnel and Veterans
Active duty military personnel should check
with their education officer for information and processing of DANTES applications.
We are an approved DANTES provider of independent learning courses at the
high school and university levels. Veterans should contact their local or
regional Veterans Administration
office for eligibility and registration information.
