Paralegal Studies
Since 1992, Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno has trained students in all areas of paralegalism with the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program, providing a noncredit educational experience of the highest caliber. New in Spring 2008, Extended Studies has added another Paralegal Studies program, Legal Writing for Paralegals and Legal Assistants, a six-session course designed for those who would like to improve their legal writing skills, experienced legal assistants and paralegals seeking a refresher, and students who have completed the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program through Extended Studies and wish to build upon skills gained in the program in an intensive legal-writing course.

Continue to build your career with this in-depth legal writing course. Taught by Sparks Municipal Court Judge Jim Spoo, who has more than 20 years’ experience as an attorney, the new Legal Writing for Paralegals and Legal Assistants course will develop high-demand writing skills and focus on creating clear, complete and well-written documents including letters, inter-office memos and client memos utilizing the correct style, organization and content. Paralegal Studies Certificate Program
Taught by State District Judge Steven R. Kosach and Sparks Municipal Court Judge Jim Spoo, both with extensive experience in Nevada’s state and federal courts, the Paralegal Studies Certificate Program provides students with the skills to accurately identify legal issues, research relevant law and apply the law to factual situations. Writing skills are developed in a highly effective practice-oriented approach from initial demand letter through motion and pleading exercises. (more)
