Public Management Courses and Certificate Program
Build a career in the public sector with this in-depth and up-to-the-minute professional development series. Providing an important stepping stone to state, county and local government employees in or aspiring to mid- and upper-level management positions, the Public Management Certificate Program offers instruction in the skills vital to success in the public sector. This wide-ranging series is suitable for professionals with diverse backgrounds and varying experience in the public arena.

The following courses may be taken independently, applied as core requirements to the Public Management certificate or Certified Public Official program, or applied as electives to certificate programs in Supervisory, Nonprofit or Human Resources Management. Formal admission to the university is not required.

Certificate Requirements
To earn a certificate, a student must successfully complete a total of 10 courses, consisting of five Public Management core and any five professional development individual courses taken as electives. Upon completion of the 10 courses, a Certificate in Public Management will be awarded.

Students who intend to complete five Public Management core courses may obtain graduate credit through the Department of Political Science. To receive credit, students must register for Political Science (PSC) 697 Independent Study and call Dr. Eric Herzik, (775) 784-6155 for specific credit requirements.

Financial assistance for continuing education and professional development may be available to eligible students enrolled in the university's Extended Studies courses.

The Certified Public Official Program
The CPO program is designed specifically for individuals appointed or elected to any public office at the municipal, county, state or school board level.
