A partnership between the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA Health) and University of Nevada, Reno, Extended Studies.

This rigorous paramedical training program results in a Paramedic Studies Certificate from the University.

As part of the didactic phase of the REMSA 12-month Paramedic Program, the Paramedic Studies Certificate prepares participants for careers in emergency medical services, emphasizing communication skills, leadership, legal issues, documentation and ethics. Beginning in January and August each year, up to 30 select students enter an intensive 12-month course of study leading to a certificate of completion and eligibility to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic (NREMT-P)

This program includes a combination of 581 didactic hours, 228 clinical hours, and 480 internship hours of rigorous paramedical training necessary to prepare for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic Exam and to work toward becoming a licensed paramedic. Didactic hours take place in the classroom and in various training facilities and labs. Topics include preparatory, trauma, medical emergencies, pediatrics, OB-GYN and behavioral.

Clinical training entails 12-hour student rotations through St. Mary’s, Renown Medical Center, Northern Nevada Medical Center and various local clinics. In the internship portion of the program, students are placed with preceptors on an ambulance and work in phases toward becoming paramedics. Students are issued provisional licenses by the State of Nevada in this portion of the program, so that they may act under the scope of a licensed paramedic responding to emergency calls in the field.

Tuition: $9,000.00
